How I wish I could say it was just one thing. Just one magic piece of software that I clicked and hey presto, leads and optins galore. Some of the gurus will tell you that things like that exist. It’s a lie

The truth? Well, opt in list building is something that takes time. It helps sometimes when you put aside the glitz and hype, and analyze what it actually is.

A list is just a collection of people who have an interest in your basic products and services. They will usually be a mix of existing clients, and prospects. Now here is a FACT that many gurus gloss over when they try and pitch their “Super Giant Robo Leads Opt In Nuker Blaster Bot” or whatever…

Otherwise, why on earth would they stay?

So, how exactly did I get my list size to be 20,000+ ? First, I’ve been online for TEN years now. My whole mindset is long term. That means, really, I’ve been going at 2,000 opt ins a year on average. Not amazing. Perhaps even slow. But – they are real, genuine clients and prospects.

The exact methods I’ve used? Well, I’ll be sharing everything over the next few weeks. It will be brutally honest. No honey. Just what works and the (normally) bitter truth about opt in list building. It takes time, yes.

But – it’s worth the effort in MULTIPLES once you establish your list and your business.

Today, lets talk a little about how you’re doing in 2012. We’re now into May and if you created a plan in January, then as we’re heading into halfway territory this is a pretty good time to review. Review what’s going right, and what’s going wrong. Nothing to buy, just some down to earth advice from an old dog who’s been running an online business for ten years now

If you feel you’re doing better than planned, great. Try to identify WHY this is and then do more of the same.

If you feel you’re not doing well enough, that’s ok. Especially if you’re a newbie, growing a business takes time. A long term, patient and almost robotic approach.

Remember, the very basics of making money online is simple – good website plus good product put in front of targeted visitors. It’s the clutter. The noise. The hundreds of conflicting emails, newsletters, BUY THIS NOW OR BE DOOMED sales pages that we’re all presented with on an hourly basis that can sometimes derail us.

So, if you’re not yet where you want to be – what is your problem? Is it that you don’t have a site? Is it that you’re not getting traffic? Is it the lack of a targeted opt in list? These are questions only you can answer.

I am going to give it to you straight. It ISN’T easy. List building, much like building your online business needs a long term approach. But, depending on your product and service offering once your business is underway each opt in client you get onto your list can be worth seven dollars. That’s an average. But let me tell you, my opt in list is the very engine of my online business.

Together, we’ll get list building right. I want every single newsletter client reading this to have a bustling opt in list. Because online, that is the single most powerful asset you will own.

You know, the internet is a lot like life in general. It rewards the patient. It rewards the hard working. And it rewards those who learn. If you understand that Rome was not built in a day, and you are willing to go from A to B to C to D , slowly and methodically…great things can happen. Just hang about long enough to let them.

I am always weary of internet statistics, but depending on who you believe there are between 90% to 99% of affiliate marketers who never make it to that elusive $5k to $10k per month level. I think you’ll agree that this would seem a fitting return for a professional business person who takes on risk, and works hard to grow a business. If this is you – if you’re a newbie trying to get there, read the below – it may help you just a little, to be where you want to be with your business.

It’s How You COMBINE Your Skills And Knowledge That Can Really Make You The Big Bucks…

When I first started in my business, I spent a small fortune in time and money to develop my first ever information product. I spent money on an ebook compiler in those days, ebooks were largely .exe based and ebook creation was a great big faffy process. Not the one click and out pops a PDF process we all enjoy today.

I spent a near fortune on a decent writer to create a book on winning with property auctions (it was a red hot niche back then – sooner or later it will be again, everythings a cycle ) – and I paid a large amount of money getting an ebook cover designed.

Back then, I was selling largely on ebay, but over time I was selling enough copies of Property Auction Bargains to see a small return. Nothing major, perhaps only $50 a month in sales or so.

As my education grew, and I learned more, I realized that my nice little product, which received rave reviews from clients wasn’t quite enough to make me rich. I needed to develop a client list. A Targeted group of people who were interested in property auctions and real estate. A list.

Over the year, I grew my list – I would record the emails of all enquiries and of course all clients of my book in a spreadsheet (ps this was way before the days of strict opt in rules). These were people who were seriously targeted. And I knew they all were looking to make money with real estate. As my list numbers spilled over into the hundreds, and then past a thousand, I kept in touch with all these clients via my newsletter. Nice content, normally not even selling things. Sometimes I would discuss chapters in the book – and I’d see sales the next day from prospects.

Then, one day I was asked by a company that had a database of property auction listings (venues and actual houses for sale) if I would push the product for a commission. I did, and the result was amazing – the product was $150 (a lot back in that time, arguably many folks may say it is still a sizeable amount)…. I saw commission after commission.

This isn’t a pointless ramble down memory lane – the point here is that when you’re trying to create your own internet business, it’s how you COMBINE your skills and experiences that will make you money.

- A good product by itself wont make you a thing.
- A good website by itself wont make you much.
- An opt in list by itself is just a list of emails.
- And, knowledge of the best affiliate programs , cPA programs (etc) wont do much for you, by themselves.

But – combine these things. Master them all. And put them together…and BANG!

GREAT things can happen. And , as the laws of momentum certainly apply in online business, one success will breed another. And then another. $50 a month can go to $500. And then $5000. And as you learn more things. More concepts. You’ll just keep expanding your possibilities.

The internet is endless. And , the ways to earn from it are also virtually endless. There are people using little more than a PC and a net connection to earn oddles of money. Open your mind. Keep learning, and maybe not today, or even tomorrow – but one day, you’ll be earning those four and five figure monthly paychecks that are very possible online.

Why Pay Per Lead And CPA Are One Of The Biggest Opportunities For Site Owners Today

The world of internet business is interesting. There are a splurge of ways to generate an income from your websites. However, in an era of austerity where people and businesses are understandibly reluctant to splash out on products and services in the way they used to – the concept of Pay Per Lead is every site owners dream. And the same applies to cost per action, if a little less.

Why Pay Per Lead?

With PPL, the website owner (you) gets paid whenever you send a LEAD and not a sale to the advertiser. Typically, this involves the site owner submitting an email address and their name (or some other info like address) – and BANG. You get paid. And, you get paid no matter what happens once you’ve sent over the lead (ie whether they go on to buy a product/service or not).

There are now many different PPL networks around offering just about every product and service you could think of. Payouts vary significantly, from a few cents – upto (the highest I know at the moment) a hundred dollars per lead.

The difference is all to do with the industry. Companies in multi-billion (or trillion) dollar industries have massive ad budgets, and so can splurge out on leads. To the small publisher, ten or fifty or a hundred bucks may seem like a lot – but to these huge companies, the business gained from the leads they convert into lifetime sales means they can offer huge payouts per lead.

And here’s the thing – because with PPL/CPA the lead does not have to pay anything (usually it is a request for more information or a free trial) the conversion rates are massively higher than for pay per sale.

Why I Always Research The Availability Of Good PPL Before Jumping Into A New Niche

Let’s face it, creating a quality site is hard work. There’s a lot to get right – good site themes and plugins, quality content and video…and after all that the REAL work starts – the marketing and SEO/linkbuilding. So, if I’m going to invest all that expense and time, I need to know I’m going to get a good payback. And, as a fundamental rule, I will always want to make sure the niche has a good selection of PPL and/or CPA offers.

Here’s an example. One of the niches I have seen success in is the rather interesting Online Dating niche. What I like about this, is the huge selection of PPL offers paying typically $3 to $7 per lead. The conversions tend to be high because once you get a targeted lead, they are likely to want to join a free dating site, and often several of them. So one lead can often provide $30+ by signing up to free dating accounts. The highest of these (correct at this articles publication) was offering $7 per free account. Not bad. So, for my online dating sites I’ll create a page that houses various of these free dating ads so that the reader has all the information in one convenient place – something like this.
