We used to call them 360’s , back in the day when I used to work for a corporate giant. In the days when I’d wear a suit and be in the office by 7 come rain, snow or shine. After work, I’d head to one of the many thriving bars along the Canary Wharf waterside (the financial hub of London) with my work mates. We would discuss a myriad of topics over a pint – from new regulations and what a pain they were, to Man Utd’s dominance in the EPL…down to the fit new girl in HR. Things were different then – I was different.

Single, somewhat over confident, and enjoying life perhaps a little too much.

Those days are long gone, but there’s one thing that I learned from those days that I still apply diligently to my business. Without it, I’m quite sure there would be less sense of purpose and direction – not just for me but for everyone who works for our small company today.

I’m talking of course about a performance review. And whether you’re a Fortune 500 giant, or a work from home mom motoring away in the basement, you really need to do one for yourself. And now, midway through the year, is a pretty good time.

A. Why Do A Performance Review?

Usually, sometime in January my long term readers know I publish a newsletter recommending that they set out goals for the coming year. A plan to outline what you wish to achieve, and how you aim to go about doing it.

It’s proven that when you set out your ambitions, goals and aims on paper, and read them regularly…your mind has a map to actually make it happen. Take a look at most successful people, and you’ll see they are big planners.

If you really want to grow. If you want your business and your income to grow – then plan. And, every few months (I would recommend 6) review those plans. Review your performance.

B. How To Do Your Performance Review

How should you go about doing your performance review? It’s very simple – follow these steps…

- Print out your original plan in front of you, and give it a good read.

- For every aim that you had set out, write a comment next to it – are things on target? Have you done or are you doing the things that you had planned?

- If you had set out specific goals(for example income) – how are they going? Are you on target to meet them? Or maybe launching new products…

- Finally, you can change your plan where required. Plans are allowed to be flexible!

When I did my performance review a few days ago, some things were on target and others were not.

My plan for this year was to continue to develop products that would help my existing clients make more income, and help the newbies own an internet business. To continue to grow DRR and keep it as a key resource for marketers, resellers and budding internet entrepreneurs. And, to continue offering services that actually help my clients build their own business.

You may recall a few weeks ago, I launched the IM Membership Site Development Project… it was the biggest project that I’ve ever offered, and the hardest to develop. But, I managed it only because I had a plan to overcome all the obstacles.

Another major plan of mine was to use my marketing skills to actually build a list for my clients. I’ve noticed that despite all the videos, and resources and tools I’ve brought to them, the majority of my clients still struggle with list building. They still pine to have that all important list so that they can really get a foothold within the IM game. So, this is something I need to provide, as messy and difficult as it may be.

This one should have been launched this summer, but is ages away. That’s because I made a mistake in gauging how long the Membersite project would take to develop and the level of resources required to complete it. That’s ok, these things happen. So, I simply amended my plan, to release the list building service at a later date.

My plan looks a little different after my performance review than it did on 2nd Jan when it was completed.

How does yours look?

Well, we don’t call them 360’s in our little company – just a plain old performance review. And I rarely get out to the clubs and the bars with my old work mates anymore – I much prefer working in my garden, or in a coffee shop. And most importantly, I no longer lust after the HR hottie – because I married the most incredible woman imaginable. In fact, the 360’s are about the only thing that I’ve kept from my old life…they’ve been instrumental in helping me grow my business, and guiding everyone in our small company to bigger and better things.

And they can do the same for you. I urge you to take an hour out of your day today, and do one for yourself.

God bless, and best of luck with your business.

Membership Sites

Membership sites can be an entrepreneurs dream. Residual income, and quality CPA/affiliate commissions are up for grabs when you know how.

Why Own A Membership Site?

Regular residual income. Adsense income. CPA income. Big ticket affiliate income. Regular followers. These are just five reasons off the top of my head for you to own a site like this. Now, despite what some gurus will tell you, setting up and running your own membership site is not easy.

On the contrary, I spent a painful amount of time researching my first ever membership site. I tried numerous paid and zero cost scripts. And, ultimately I spent a fortune having it developed too. Even today, I invest real time and money everday on my site, to keep it updated with the very best products, and to try and introduce new initiatives that my members would like.

So, why go through all the hassle? And why do I recommend all my clients have their own membership site business themselves? It goes something like this…

1. It Gives You Residual Income – The Holy Grail Of Incomes

Residual income is that which is received on a regular basis. It’s a little like having a monthly paycheck, only without the annoying backstabbing boss, or the rush hour commute. It’s not “money for nothing” as some of the ebooks and courses try to make out in their sales pages. Far from it, you still need to invest real time to update your site. But, do it right, offer your clients good regular updates – and more times than not, they will stick around.

You’ll find that as you collect new members, your income can snowball quite dramatically without you having to do “extra” work. It really is the sophisticated internet entrepreneurs in come of choice.

2. Your Protected Content Site Allows You Space To Advertise More Targeted Products

Protected content (member) sites unlike ebooks/videos/static sites are dynamic. If you’re doing your job as the owner, you’ll be updating your products regularly. That means people have a reason to keep logging in, and checking the new downloads. That’s a live audience there – and you know what they like. Hence, it allows you a highly targeted stream of responsive prospects to offer additional products and services to.

You can add in CPA links, big ticket affiliate links, Adsense…. And monetise your space effectively. Bottom line? this type of site can yield multiple sources of income over and above the residual subscription income.

3. They Offer You A Competitive Advantage & Brand Awareness

The more difficult something is, the less competition you have. That’s a basic rule in life. Membership sites are notoriously tricky to set-up. That’s why you don’t see them being offered for anything less than top dollar (check the rates on elance for yourself). That’s actually a good thing for you. It means greater barriers to entry, which helps you charge a higher price for what you offer.

It also helps to brand you – the protected content site owner has far more flexibility and credibility than someone peddling ebooks for $1.99 from his sad HTML static site. Plus the flexibility to do JVs. And to build a quick list into the thousands, simply by offering a free members level that can be upgraded later.

4. As Your Member Site Grows, You Offer More And More Versus Your Competition

If you operate a model where as soon as the member joins, they access everything in your protected content site, it’s a real advantage – especially if you have been around for years, your clients can feel they are getting an unmissable bargain.

We'll Develop Your Membership Site For You!

Click Here To Have Your Membership Site Developed (Your Own Hosting)

5. If & When The Time Comes To Sell On Your Virtual Real Estate – They Can Fetch Five And Six Figure Sums

A while ago, I wrote a book called Site Flipping Tycoon (you can download it free here). It’s about how to acquire quality internet websites on the cheap, make tiny modifications and flip (sell) them at multiples of your investment.

If you are in the website flipping business, then this type of site can be an extraordinary source of income for you. Especially when you can prove that you have a base of existing members, and you have a flow of organic traffic coming in.

The Challenges & Problems In Setting Up A Protected Content Site

We’ve seen the many benefits that having your own powerful site like this can bring. So why is it that less than 1% of sites on the internet are membership based ones – when this model is so profitable?

It’s to do with the many challenges that present themselves in setting up a membership site such as:

1. Finding quality membership site software that performs well is difficult – and the best scripts can cost several hundred (to over a thousand) dollars to purchase.

2. They can be a technical nightmare to set-up. Even with a good script, you will frankly need a certain level of tech savvy or you’re almost certainly going to struggle. You should of course spend time to train yourself getting technically proficient, but in reality this can take far more time & patience than most people have. I know in my early days as an internet entrepreneur I tried and tried (and tried) scrip installations…it never worked, and I ended up paying someone to do it (it saved me a lot of stress, and the investment paid for itself in multiples shortly after launching my first site). The fact is most people are NOT website experts – and the expense and difficulty associated with setting up a good protected content site is a real hurdle for them.

If you’re technically proficient this is less of an issue – but if you’re not familiar and experienced with terms like server Cpanels, MySQL, cgi, FTP then I’m sorry to tell you that there is a lot of pain ahead. That’s just a fact.

For those of us who can side step this, it’s a real opportunity, because the competition from similar site types is far less intense than other non-complex sites.

3. Another huge factor is the sometimes jaw dropping costs of finding quality scripts that do as they’re supposed. You see many low end or even free membership scripts – and typically they will leave you pulling your hair out trying to get them to work (only to find that fundamental flaws in the script means you’ve just wasted countless hours on something that just doesn’t work). At the other end of the spectrum, some membership site software solutions sell for thousands of dollars (and still require high technical ability from the user). Again, this is one of the big reasons why so few people are able to set-up quality membership sites…it’s far harder than you may imagine.

4. Carefully researching a cash generating niche where the protected content model will work well. The model itself is not suited to every niche. It’s important to do a lot of research and only pick a niche where these models are accepted by the core prospects – and of course the niche should be one with millions of cash rich prospects, and have a good affiliate infrastructure so that you can earn the “good stuff” (like the CPA & big ticket affiliate commissions that we talked about above). All of these factors are vital in making sure your membership site business has a good chance of long term success.

You’re going to be spending a long time promoting and managing each membership site you own – don’t make the mistake of picking anything but the best niches to get involved with.

5. Finding new products and/or content for your site. A good membership site is one where the member feels compelled to stay, month after month. In order to keep members happy, you must offer constant new products/content on a monthly basis. You must have a plan for this before launching your membership site. How much new content/products will you source (as a rule of thumb, find the industry norm and then provide 20% more)? Where will you source this, and how much will this cost you? If the cost for new products/content is high – you will need to figure out how much to charge your members so you can come away with a tidy profit.

6. Successfully marketing your site. You could have the best website in the world – but unless you manage to attract qualified traffic that are interested in the content of your protected content site, you still wont make any money. There are specific tactics that you’ll want to employ to meet this goal.

So, you need to juggle a lot of balls about to make a success of your site. Believe me, making even one membership site into a profit spewing juggernaught (sorry, I’m subscribed to all the guru newsletters) takes a LOT of dedication, time and know how. But, get it right, and the rewards are lavish – and may just last a lifetime.

Membership Sites

Ever wanted to own a membership site? We take a balanced look in this article on the benefits and challenges associated with this type of site. There's residual income, CPA income and big ticket CPA earnings to be had. But can you handle it?

Regular residual income. Adsense income. CPA income. Big ticket affiliate income. Regular followers. These are just five reasons off the top of my head for you to own a membership site. Now, despite what some gurus will tell you, setting up and running your own membership site is not easy.

On the contrary, I spent a painful amount of time researching my first ever membership site. I tried numerous paid and zero cost scripts. And, ultimately I spent a fortune having it developed too. Even today, I invest real time and money everday on my membership site, to keep it updated with the very best products, and to try and introduce new initiatives that my members would like.

So, why go through all the hassle? And why do I recommend all my clients have their own membership site business themselves? It goes something like this…

1. Membership Site Income Is Residual Income – The Holy Grail Of Incomes

Residual income is that which is received on a regular basis. It’s a little like having a monthly paycheck, only without the annoying backstabbing boss, or the rush hour commute. It’s not “money for nothing” as some of the membership site ebooks and courses try to make out in their sales pages.

2. Your Membership Site Allows You Space To Advertise More Targeted Products

Membership sites unlike ebooks/videos/static sites are dynamic. If you’re doing your job as a membership site owner, you’ll be updating your products regularly.
Membership sites can yield multiple sources of income over and above the residual subscription income.

3. Membership Sites Offer You A Competitive Advantage & Brand Awareness

It also helps to brand you – a membership site owner has far more flexibility and credibility than someone peddling ebooks for $1.99 from his sad HTML static site. A membership site owner has flexibility to do JVs. And to build a quick list into the thousands, simply by offering a free members level that can be upgraded later.

These are just a few of the advantages of owning a membership site. But, before you start licking your lips, let’s balance this review by talking about some of the challenges and problems that you’ll face when developing your membership site. You didn’t think it was all plain sailing did you?

1. The Technical Hurdles Are High (It’s Why Membership Sites Are Still The Minority)

There are a whole catalogue of membership site scripts – from the most simple (requiring manual member setup) to fancy scripts costing several thousands. And from ones that are painful to set-up to those that simply don’t work. If you’re not technically gifted, it could and (in all honesty) will be a struggle to install correctly.

I’ve used a variety of scripts myself over time – so I know the pain and strife involved.
2. The Importance Of Using A Cutting Edge Script (Not Yesteryears Junk)

A couple of years ago, a well known guru was selling a rather hyped up script for about 1.5k – a lot of people purchased the user rights for this script, which to be fair was quite good at the time. Recently, the same guru has turned around and offered the same script to everyone for f.ree as open source plr software (presumably making a lot of people who invested over a thousand bucks pretty upset – and in case you’re wondering, I didn’t promote it as it was priced far too high then).

The point here is, beware of “free” when you’re trying to set-up a business that presumably needs to be cutting edge, and rich with functionality. You would not feel safe flying in a plane made in the 1950’s – but internet technology evolves at such breakneck speed that using yesteryears free scripts can be highly costly in the long run. There are in fact many zero cost membersite scripts in the market, but I’ve yet to try one that did what it was supposed to, or was simple to install and maintain. More than likely, you’ll end up tearing your hair out in installing and configuring, only to find out some key element doesn’t work. And then it’s back to the drawing board to try the next one.
3. Aside From Setting Up Your Membership Site, You Need To Fill It With Good Products Before Offering It Online. That Can Take Time (And Money)

When people opt for a membership site, they expect a large number of resources to access immediately. Even when you launch your membership site, you’ll need at least 50+ premium products to offer your potential clients something to enjoy. I would suggest 100 as a good start level, but this requires a large time investment to upload.
4. An Understanding Of Membership Site Promotion Is Crucial

Even after you get your membership site up and running, and after you’ve added a good selection of in demand resources to it, there’s still the matter of knowing how and where to promote it. In order to fill it with clients. There are some things that work very well for membership site promotion – and many things that don’t. Again, if you don’t have a concise blueprint for this, you can end up losing a lot of time and money on hyped (and fake) schemes.

So there you have it – you can see an island of riches. But there are sharks in the water before you can get there.

Why Picking The Right Niche Will Either Make You Rich (Or Poor)

Before we start, you can pick up my brand new Niche Business Empire book worth $97 here:

Niche Business Empire

Most people think that you only start making money on the internet when your site is set-up and when the traffic starts spilling in.

WRONG

Your fate as an internet business owner is signed, sealed and delivered the MOMENT you decide on a specific niche to enter. It’s the reason 95% or so of people just can’t make more than a few bucks online. They opted for the wrong internet niche to set-up in.

I’m not joking, but I’ve seen “gurus” promoting the following types of niches in the past. I’ll tell you why the poor people who set-up in these niches are not making anything more than pocket money within them:

- Halloween : It comes around once a year, plus it’s very difficult to monetize a Halloween site. Most people will buy costumes from their local toy shop, and the demand for this type of site is low. When you have a seasonal niche that is hard to monetize…you’re not going to make much money – now THAT’S scary!

- How To Rid Yourself Of Headlice (Home Made Remedies): I’ve nothing against people with headlice or any type of personal hygiene issues. Nevertheless, (and I don’t mean to be judgemental) it’s unlikely that someone who requires assistance removing ticks from their head is likely to spend an awful lot of money on your site. Again, the issue of how to monetize the site rears it’s ugly head. Even if you get traffic to the site, how will that traffic convert to revenue for you? It wont.

Now granted, these are two extreme examples – but there are thousands of other wishey washey niches that are out there with low to zero potential. Most of the time, I can just look at a niche and say yes or no in terms of whether it is worth my time and money to enter (mostly it’s NO).

Now, here’s another thing that you must write down that is KEY.

“Whether You Choose A Poor Niche Or A Rich Niche – You Will Need To Invest The Same Amount Of Marketing Effort To Get It Off The Ground…So Choose WISELY!”

It’s true – if you want to seriously make money from your internet marketing endeavours, you’ll need to spend a lot of time and energy marketing. Driving traffic. It’s NOT rocket science but it requires some effort on your part (or a marketing budget if you want someone else to do the work).

What Every Millionaire Niche Marketer Understands …

We know that choosing the correct niche is the KEY in making long term income online. Now, assuming you’ve been able to do that here are the most important factors in making sure your new business makes money hand over fist!

If you can do the following, you’ll be able to set-up as many successful online niche businesses as you desire. And that should be your ultimate plan – to have ten, fifteen POWER niches all pulling in four figure per month revenues for you. It will not happen overnight – but you CAN work at one new business per six to eight weeks (full time). That means within a year you could have multiple internet businesses all working for you…that brings both security and prosperity.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though! Here’s a summary of everything you’ll need to have in order to make this work for you

1. The Correct Mindset – This is KEY. You have to LOVE the internet, and being an internet business owner. You have to accept the challenges and the workload. You have to allow TIME to let your business work and not fold just because the first month or two aren’t doing as well as you want.

It’s a long term effort – if you don’t accept that then honestly, save yourself a lot of hassle and don’t get into this game. It’ll eat you alive. If you can live with that, and take a long term approach, this industry will reward you handsomely. If you don’t believe that, just ask some of the gurus who’ve been around for three years, five years or a decade or so. For them, it’s not about IF they make money, but HOW MUCH they make. But…patience is KEY.
2. Your Site Is Your Place Of Business – Make Sure It’s PERFECT!

Remember, your site is your shopfront when it comes to the internet. Unfortunately, many people just don’t GET it. They set up sites that are ugly, poor to navigate, have poor content (etc).

I’ll tell you frankly – I know my way around site set-up and it is NOT easy. The simple fact is that I now hire professionals to set-up my site because there’s no way even with my expertise I can set-up high performance sites. If you’re reading this as a newbie, you have 2 choices – first, invest months/years in time and a lot in design courses/tools to be able to design yourself a professional site – or outsource it and spend your time and energy on the more important part of marketing your site and getting business to it. In the offline world you wont see a business owner building his shopfront from scratch – yet online, so many newbies try and set-up their own sites and make a complete mess of it.

It’s the same thing regarding your site content – it MUST be top notch. These days you should have not only quality content but also multimedia videos that are informative. It’s time to write down something again…

“I’ll Say It Again- DON’T Skimp On Your Site – However It’s Built, Make Sure It’s Professional Looking, And Includes High Quality Content & Multimedia…If You’re A Newbie Get It Outsourced As You’re Unlikely To Be Able To Set-Up A Great Site Yourself”

3. Understand That Marketing & Traffic Generation Is What It’s All About – This Is Where You Need To Focus Your Time, Energy & Budget On

Pick a niche. Crucial. Set-up a professional site – essential. And the last piece of the puzzle? Market and drive traffic to it. If you can master these three things, you’ll make more money on the internet than you ever dared dream. You’ll be logging into you Paypal account and wonder where on earth it’s all coming from.

So, let’s look at the “marketing” aspect of your niche internet business empire.

a. There’s No One Size Fits All For Niche Marketing – There are more internet marketing techniques and systems than there are fat headed gurus trying to promote big ticket courses (I know that may seem improbable but it’s true).

You must understand, every different internet niche has it’s own business dynamic. It has different portals of traffic. And it requires a different approach to each. The fact is, unless you seek out expert help you’re just going to have to get your hands dirty and try different marketing approaches for each niche you set-up in.

For example, internet marketing giveaways are a fair source of traffic for the internet marketing niche (arguably now less effective thanks to the glut of giveaway scripts and thus crappy events…but still effective). However, this is a terrible way of trying to get business and leads for say a travel site. The giveaway just does not exist in the travel industry – and even if it did it would not work terribly well.

So, you need to research the marketing requirements very thoroughly for your chosen niches – or you’ll have spent a lot of time and money on something that you can’t even drive business to.
b. Marketing Is NOT Rocket Science – Even The Freshest Newbies Can Drive 100 To 200 Unique Site Visitors Per Day Once They Master The Marketing Basics

Internet business is largely a numbers game. Marketing for your internet business requires a basic understanding of how many hits (unique visitors) the different marketing methods can get for you.

Remember, to learn about the highest paying internet niches, and to learn how to set up a business for them pick up my free Niche Business Empire book.

It’s shocking. 99% of affiliates are still turning their backs on the cost per action revolution that has been available to wise marketers and site owners for a couple of years now. It’s shocking that 99% of people would rather earn a $20 commission by trying to sell a product…rather than earn the same amount just for sending a lead (visitor who takes action) to a company.

What CPA Is – And A Look At Why It’s So Powerful

Typically, how CPA works is as follows:

1. You have a blog about diets, weight loss, fitness. You have some traffic coming to it already which is interested primarily in losing weight.

2. You see that Product X which sells diet pills offers $50 per lead for every visitor you send them who requests a free trial for the product.

3. You join the CPA program, put up the banner for the free trial and let your traffic do the rest.

This is exactly why CPA is so powerful. Your site visitor does not have to buy a thing in order for you to get paid. They only have to request the free trial and you get paid $50 (typically they would pay $3 or so for shipping – most people who have an interest in diet pills would willingly do so).

Above – A typical pay per lead offer. When your site visitor requests a free product sample, you get paid – in the above example, $50 per free sample requested. More on this CPA here.

By the way, this example was not plucked out of thin air – in the diet & weight loss business development program I offer, this exact PPL program was available.

This is why CPA is the leading earnings opportunity for affiliates and site owners everywhere. No where else can you generate such lavish commissions without even guaranteeing the vendor a sale. No where else can you simply send the traffic and get paid. Plus, because CPA opportunities tend to be offered by larger companies with larger marketing budgets – they typically have very good support materials for affiliates (like animated banners etc).

Why CPA And PPL Is So Lucrative? As The Adage Goes, “It Takes Money To Make Money”

It’s quite simple. The big PPL/CPA offers tend to be in big, financially lucrative niches. Why would anyone pay you $20, $50 or even $100 just for sending them a targeted lead? Because what they are trying to sell (the ultimate product or service), can generate multiples more in revenues for them.

Would you mind paying $50 if you can generate $5,000 or more in return (even if it’s over a period of time)? That’s how the big companies in the big niches think too. A health insurance company knows that it may need to spend $25 per lead to get a targeted prospect to it’s site…but if even a small percentage of those leads sign up, they could be seeing $3,000 commissions per year for several years as a result. It makes sense. It works for the vendor. And goodness, it works well for you and I.

Some Problems With CPA And PPL – You Need To Be In The Right Niches

The problem with CPA is simple – you need to be in the right niches to get paid the big amounts. There are many niches where you only get a few cents or perhaps a dollar per lead. Pretty uninspiring.

Another issue with CPA is that offers tend to be somewhat fluid. They come and go, so you need to continually be on the look out for the best latest offers and update your sites accordingly.

That’s why you really should do a lot of niche research before stepping into any niche. It’s the most important part of setting up an online business. Below, I’ve outlined some of the highest paying CPA and pay per lead niches around today. The links will take you into the business development site for each, but you don’t have to buy anything – you’ll benefit from the research alone.

Four Of The Highest Paying CPA And PPL Niches I’ve Seen (These Values Will Change Over Time – But These Niches Should Always Offer Good CPA’s)

Diet & Weight Loss – $50 Per Lead

Debt Help – Upto $32 Per Lead

Health insurance – Upto $60 Per Lead

Why you should like it hard (business that is)...

In most aspects of life, I have found the following to be true:

“Nothing that is worth doing, or achieving, comes easy”. It applies to just about everything you will ever do. Take a look at sports stars. People knock superstars like Christiano Ronaldo (the world soccer player of the year) who now earns millions a year in wages and endorsements. They say stuff like “oh he gets paid so much for running around a field, it’s a disgrace!”. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In actual fact, Christiano (and everyone who gets to the top of their game in any field) has sweated blood to get where he is today. He practices day and night, looks to continually improve his skills and techniques, has a tediously strict diet and trains like a beast. In an interview shortly after getting his player of the year award he revealed that he got there by working HARDER than the others in his profession. When training finishes, he’s there for an extra two hours working on his skills, his techniques. To get that little bit better, day after day.

This is even more true within the internet business and marketing niche. Without exception, the people who climb to the very top have got there by doing the hard things that many others have given up on. There are always big challenges to be met in business and marketing – you have to view that as a good thing. Because, when you come over a hurdle…everyone else also comes over it. Many will fall – but if you stay at it, and succeed…you can bet it will reflect on your bottom line. It’s good to have it hard, it separates the men from the boys – the wheat from the chaff.

This is very different to what you may hear elsewhere. The sad truth is many people will try and con you into believing that there are easy ways out. Yes, there are ways to be more efficient, and to be more productive but there’s no magic red button that does it all for you on autopilot.

Sadly some programs/products rely on the weakness & laziness of people to grab them sales. Here are some examples:

- Some programs will tell you that you can build a six figure online business without your own site/blog, or opt in list, or any budget. To someone who’s struggling with the technicals of blog/site development or who has yet to earn a penny you can see how it would have a strong appeal. Many of these programs don’t work – often such programs simply sell a tool, or concept that may be effective but only for those who have a business set-up already.

- Some software will promise you the moon, saying you can just switch it on and traffic will start pouring into your sites and blogs. There’s only one slight problem – it doesn’t work. Again, it’s an ideal “solution” for those who don’t want to get their hands DIRTY by doing the effective marketing strategies that can take time and effort. With time and experience, you’ll learn how to spot these a mile away.

There are hundreds more examples, but I’m sure you get the gist. Think about that the next time you come across something that you feel you cannot overcome. Remember that everyone else, including your competition, are in the same boat. If you can rise and beat the challenge, you’re a step closer to where you want to be.

And, remember that online business and internet marketing is a long term game – the process of finding an in-demand product/service to offer, and then setting up a business system to offer it is no joke. To do it right takes hard work. The more you apply yourself, and win on the small challenges, the more battles you’ll start to win – and sooner or later that will filter through to your Paypal account. Big time.

Why The PLR Boom Is Not All Roses – A Balanced Look At Private Label Rights

Private label rights are going from strength to strength. But, are they all they’re cracked up to be or is the potential driving the PLR boom overhyped and oversold? That’s what we’ll discuss in today’s topic, along with a sobering look into the realities of the PLR disease that continues to threaten the reputation of this potent industry.

1. Why PLR’s Have Taken Off Like A Kung Fu Panda…

Unless you’ve been having tea on planet Krypton with supermans dad for 2 years, you’re obviously aware of the PLR boom and the insatiable appetite of the PLR market. Good private label rights are having a bull run that, currently, shows no signs of slowing. In all shapes and sizes of niches, private label rights material is highly sought after. And here’s why:

- The BOOM that we’re seeing within the internet business niche has created a number of support industries. The PLR industry is one of them. The fact is, millions of new websites and businesses are coming online everyday – that means millions of new blogs, sites, ebiz reports, articles are being constructed…these all require base content, and PLRs are the fastest and most economical way of doing this. And, because online publishing requires the blog/site owner to create new content regularly, the demand for private label rights content just keeps increasing and increasing.

- With a little tinkering, it’s possible to dress up a private label rights product as a completely new and unique product. Hence, PLRs appeal to information product developers who can publish a range of titles that are exclusive to their publishing house, at a greatly reduced outlay.

- Cranking it up a notch, source code (or “PLR for software” if you’re not someone who has milk-bottle glasses and several editions of C++ books on their shelf) allows anyone to own their own unique software titles to resell to any given niche. The potential here is endless, because any given software can be modified and applied to any number of individual niches. For example, core software that creates a social network site (like a youtube or myspace clone) can be modified and marketed as a specific software for any number of specific social sites (eg social sites for bankers, accountant’s, marketers, and so on).

- PLR’s allow people with zero experience to look like an expert. We all have a different area of expertise, and it’s very difficult to develop or write content in an area for which you have zero experience. So, for example, I have personally developed most of the content within my finance sites myself. That’s because I possess an intrinsic knowledge and experience of the investments and finance field – probably more so than the average Vice President at an investment bank (although, judging by the current state of the banking industry, so does my cat and by quite a distance). But, I know nothing of substance about the medical niche…so were I to develop an ebook on acne (for example), my choices would either be to get a specialist medical writer to do it, or source quality PLR on the subject. And, assuming you can find high quality PLR, it’s a lot easier to use this option than the latter.
2. The Problems With The PLR Industry – Zero Regulation Means Zero Quality Control

That’s the trouble with any unregulated industry – and internet marketing & PLR certainly falls into this category – it attracts people who are out for the quick buck and could not care less about what dross they offer, or whoever gets hurt in the process. Let me tell you, regulation is not always the evil that many people believe it to be. Were it not for the shamelessly low levels of regulations in the banking sector we would not have seen a fraction of the toxic debts that the greedy city culture has lumbered the global economy with. We would not today be facing a recession, and the shops and houses around your neighbourhood would not be collapsing like a house of cards. Yet, the word “regulation” immediately makes the conspiracy theorists stand up and organise a march everytime a new CCTV camera goes up in the local high street. They should actually be happy because when done responsibly, regulation in most instances is a good thing. It prevents the lunatics from taking over the assylum, and as we’ve seen from the banking fallout this is not only desired but downright essential.

No surprise then that I would welcome some level of regulation within our internet marketing & PLR industry.

Unfortunately, our industry is largely unmonitored, and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon. Thus, any halfwit with a copy of Word For Windows and a paypal account can effectively offer unpolished, unchecked private label rights, clearly written by someone to whom English is a hobby (and evidently not one on which much time is spent). That irks me because it gives OUR industry a bad name everytime someone pulls on the trigger in good faith. It means that a percentage of the new people that join this newsletter come in not expecting the very best, but the very worst. And I think that’s very sad, for all of us.

In case you’re wondering, I don’t think the majority of people provide especially bad stuff – there is in fact a lot of good PLR out there too (pop into DRR if you don’t believe me)…it’s just that there is enough BAD stuff for it to be a concern. Honestly, William Shakespear would turn into a gibbering wreck were he to read some of the PLR content that I have to discard due to it being shear garbage.

OK, this has turned into a bit of a rant, and I can see my wife and editor, Kez, hovering menacingly around me with a giant red pen and a wagging finger so I’ll quickly get back to the point…

The point is that ultimately, PLR is not about you or I. It’s about the end user – the PEOPLE who will come to your blog, or read your ebook. If all that they have is a collection of oddly constructed sentences loosely connected to their topic of interest that reads like it may or may not have been written by a loon, I very much doubt they’ll be reaching for the digital bookmark. I doubt you’ll achieve much credibility, and I very much doubt that your recommendations will be met with any real enthusiasm – do you?

And therein lies the real tragedy – because that’s exactly what a well constructed private label rights product should set out to do. So be smart, and only ever use high quality private label rights. Anything else amounts to cheating your readers, and ultimately yourself.

Here's a useful list of "do-follow" forums for internet marketers - and a blurb on why you should only post on do follow forums!

When you set-out your marketing plans, I hope you take into account that not all marketing activities are as effective an each other. Hopefully, you know that the concept of the “lazy marketer” is something of a myth – marketing is a highly time consuming process, even with the best tools at your disposal.

With that in mind, you must make sure that you’re putting your sites about in the right places. For forums, you must make sure that they are not only highly visited, but that they have “do-follow” links in place. It’s the same if you use blog comments to drive traffic to your own blog/site.

Below are a list of good high traffic forums for internet marketers - Because, the forums are all “do follow” which means your signatures and URLs will not only be seen by forum members and included in Google searches for a long time – but you also get search engine credit for your efforts (ie the robots will follow the link from the forums back to your site and that benefits your page rank). Unfortunately, some forum owners have set a “do not follow” instruction to the search engines – I don’t get that, as it effectively means the members are helping the forum to grow by contributing, but the forum does not wish to return the courtesy.

Just to confirm, the list is not all encompassing – just because a forum is not on the list does not mean it is not “do follow” – there are too many forums to track to sort them all. But, sticking to this list will ensure you get SE credit and help your ranks (the list relates to IM forums):
